Liberation at the Margins Collective – LAM Collective – is a learning community engaged in the study and practice of Black feminisms and freedom dreaming at the Ohio Reformatory for Women in Marysville. LAM Collective remains at the margins to emphasize rather than assimilate standpoints formed through oppressive carceral systems. The marginal also reinforces the vitality of collective action in higher education in prison projects based in restorative justice and healing – rather than on individual narratives common in carceral spaces which imply that overcoming hardship is a solitary responsibility and achievement. In LAM Collective, education is a process of sharing experience and building theoretical and pedagogical muscle together to counteract shame, dehumanization, and status quo expectations of expertise and success.
During this Digital Dialogue, five incarcerated members of LAM Collective will present their insights from the group (via web conferencing) and answer audience members’ questions about LAM’s intellectual project and future plans.
This event is cosponsored by Ohio Prison Education Exchange Project, Global Arts + Humanities Discovery Theme, and Project PEER.
