Trauma-Informed Practices for Teaching in Carceral Spaces

OPEEP, in collaboration with The Petey Greene Program, will host this workshop with a focus on integrating trauma-informed practices into classrooms within carceral spaces. The workshop will emphasize social justice pedagogy strategies and techniques to equip OPEEP instructors entering facilities with the skills needed to implement trauma-informed teaching in their classrooms.

Participants will engage in discussion and small-group activities to learn about trauma-informed teaching strategies for classrooms inside carceral facilities. At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to utilize trauma-informed teaching techniques during class and self-care strategies between classes to support incarcerated learners and avoid causing additional harm.
