OPEEP Magazine: Call for Submissions
Hello OPEEP students, faculty, and learning community members,
We write to issue a call for submissions for our first magazine (title TBD)! The magazine will be published online and in print this September.
We seek original academic essays, creative and nonfiction writing, playlists, and visual art for our inaugural issue. We want to provide a platform for the rigorous intellectual and artistic work happening throughout central Ohio in OPEEP courses, programming, and learning communities. Whether you are responding to a philosophy or psychology prompt in a college course, sharing a poem, or sketching a portrait, we want to see your work.
Faculty, if you have time to serve as a reviewer for the magazine this spring and summer, please let us know.
What We Are Looking For:
- Academic & Course Work: Essays, research papers, or reflections written for or about OPEEP classes or learning communities. We welcome work in any academic discipline.
- Poetry: Original poems of any style or length.
- Prose & Memoir: Short stories, personal essays, or creative non-fiction.
- Visual Art: Drawings, paintings, zines, or graphic designs. We can try to photograph your work, when possible, though providing us with the original artwork would be better. We will return your work to you.
- Op-Eds: Short, persuasive pieces on justice reform, education, or social issues near and dear to your heart. Be sure that you illustrate the impact of Ohio State education on your perspectives.
Submission Guidelines
To ensure your work is considered, please follow these steps:
- Format: Handwritten work is accepted if legible. Typed work is preferred if you have a way to do that in your facility.
- Bio: Please include a short (2–3 sentence) biography. You may use first name only or a pseudonym in the final publication if you wish to remain anonymous for safety or privacy reasons. But be sure you submit your full name on your initial submission.
- Originality: All work must be your own. If you are citing sources in an academic paper, please use a consistent citation style (like MLA, Chicago, or APA) to the best of your ability.
- Length: the maximum length for any submission is 2500 words.
- You may submit up to two pieces of written work, or two pieces of written work and one creative visual piece or playlist.
- Final acceptances will be decided by a selection committee of OPEEP faculty and staff and LAM members. See the rubric below.
