In May 2024, OPEEP staff and learning community members hosted our second instructor training which prepared twelve new faculty from the Columbus and Newark campuses to teach OPEEP classes inside Ohio prisons. The training was three full days in length and took place from May 6-8, 2024. Days one and three were held on the Columbus campus and day two was spent entirely at the Ohio Reformatory for Women, where new instructors collaborated with incarcerated members of Liberation At the Margins (LAM) Collective, OPEEP's learning community at the facility. LAM members co-facilitated various workshops and activities for the group, inviting them to reflect upon past experiences with teaching and learning and providing key insights and strategies for teaching in carceral settings.
OPEEP's twelve newest instructors represent nine disciplines and three colleges, including the following: Dr. DeAnza Cook, Dr. Jill Davis, Dr. Jessica Delgado, Dr. Simone Drake, Dr. Irvin Gonzalez, Dr. Therese Hice-Fromille, Dr. Treva Lindsey, Dr. fabian romero, Dr. Victor St. John, Dr. Viet Trinh, Dr. Shavange Scott, and Dr. Christine Warner. With instructors from the departments of Dance, African American and African Studies, Comparative Studies, and more, OPEEP students are sure to have plenty of exciting course options in the coming semesters!
We welcome these new instructors to the OPEEP community and cannot wait to see all the exciting ways they will advance OPEEP’s mission for educational and social justice on and off campus.
