After a long hiatus from teaching in Ohio prison facilities due to COVID-19 restrictions, we are excited to share that during this past spring semester (2022) OPEEP was able to facilitate four courses within two prison facilities! These courses included three taught at the Ohio Reformatory for Women: African American and African Studies 3083: The Civil Rights and Black Power Movements taught by Newark campus Professor Tiyi Morris, Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies 3300.01S: Feminist Perspectives of Incarceration in the US taught by Columbus campus Professor Mary Thomas, and Geography 3600: Space, Power and Political Geography taught by Newark campus Professor Kenneth Madsen; and one course taught at the Southeastern Correctional Institute: Philosophy 2194.01: The Philosophy of Happiness with Columbus campus Professor Amy Shuster. The photo above shows students from Dr. Morris' class celebrating a fantastic semester together during their closing ceremony!
In the 2022-2023 academic year, OPEEP is proudly offering ten different courses meeting within three different prison facilities: the Ohio Reformatory for Women (ORW) in Marysville, Southeastern Correctional Institution (SCI) in Lancaster, and Richland Correctional Institution (RiCI) in Marion. OPEEP instructors, students, and staff are excited to continue riding the positive momentum of the spring 2022 semester into the new academic year!
